About John Waite

John C. Waite grew up in the multicultural gumbo that was New Orleans in the '50s where local mafioso stirred a pot flavored by gambling and prostitution and seasoned with political turmoil.

He went from there to Athens, Ga., where he earned a degree from the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism. He then returned to South Louisiana where he won numerous writing and broadcasting awards.

Family matters took him to the beaches of West Florida where he found a renewed interest in the sea. That lured him into the U.S. Merchant Marine where he worked as a bridge officer on service vessels for almost twenty years, at ports ranging from the Gulf Coast to Norfolk, Va., San Diego, Ca., to Seattle, WA, and to Oahu in the Pacific.

He has raced sailboats across the Gulf of Mexico, chased hurricanes across the Southeast, interviewed numerous celebrities, reported on local, state and national politics.

His volume of short stories earned a commendation award from Self-Publishing Review in digital format before it became available in print. In addition to Amazon, his stories are available in the literary journal Page and Spine Showcase.com.
